Make Auto Industry fight global warming!
Auto industry is lone opposition to groundbreaking bill
Because the icecaps are likely to melt before the federal government enacts meaningful restrictions on tailpipe emissions from cars, states like California are trying a promising new tactic to fight global warming: enact groundbreaking legislation at the state level to curb tailpipe carbon emissions.
On one side, there are 12 states, thousands of RAN supporters, and countless concerned citizens who are committed to finding a way to fight global warming -- with or without help from the White House.
But on the other side, a lone voice of opposition is pouring millions of dollars into blocking state-based tailpipe carbon limits: the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (AAM).
By suing states that try to curb global warming and launching a massive ad campaign to convince the public that fuel economy is a bad thing, the AAM is threatening to derail the most significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions currently being enacted in the United States.
This week, we need your help to fight back. At a hearing in Sacramento tomorrow, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will decide whether to allow California's groundbreaking legislation to proceed -- a decision that will have consequences for all states seeking to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. RAN activists will be there in force, and we need your help, too.
Through Thursday, we need as many people as possible to write the president of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers Dave McCurdy, and demand that the AAM stop blocking this legislation.
At the end of the day, the AAM is concerned with sales and profit margins. We need them to know that thousands upon thousands of car owners and potential car buyers want the AAM to stop sinking money into fighting regulations and start investing in real solutions to global warming. Click here to write the AAM now!
