Say No to New Coal!!!! Clean Coal is not the answer to a dirty problem!

Since last fall, RAN's Global Finance Campaign has been reaching out to the largest banks, asking them to not finance TXU's coal-fired power plants and other dirty coal projects in the U.S.

RAN supporters have helped gather over 21,000 petition signatures from friends and family that will help keep our banks and money out of TXU's coal plants. On February 21, RAN activists all over the nation escalated that message by going into the streets and telling TXU's bankers that financing dirty coal is unacceptable.

Now it's time to Step It Up!

On April 13th and 14th, as part of a grassroots movement, we will take our "No New Coal" demands to the doorsteps of Wall Street's richest banks. Seven banks are funding most of the new coal-fired power plants that are currently being developed in the U.S.: JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers. Join us in telling the Wall Street Seven that supporting renewable energy like solar and wind should be their primary investment and to take these new coal plants off the drawing board.

You can take the first step by downloading our "No New Coal" action kit:http://ran.org/NoNewCoal/

You'll find all the tools you need to tell the bankers and financiers to stop funding new coal power plants.

Find local bank branches, download a letter you can take to the local branch manager, send a letter to their corporate headquarters, and learn about how your group can become "Billionaires for Coal" for the day of action.

Be sure to register your action – or check out what's already planned in your community:

If the banks don't fund them, then the coal power plants won't be built. Together, we can convince these giant banks to Step It Up and start funding the future!

PS – Last month, RAN met with Citigroup CEO Chuck Prince, and asked Citi to join the movement for No New Coal. 7,000 of you supported the message by signing the online petition – so what has Citi done? The short answer is: not enough yet, but we believe they are going to start taking some important steps on climate change
