Right now, twelve states are ready to fight global warming by adopting tough vehicle emissions standards. Unfortunately, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is standing in their way!
The Bush Administration's EPA is requiring the states to obtain special Clean Air Act "waivers" before they can put these tougher emissions standards in action.
Tough emissions standards for vehicles? That makes sense. But the Environmental Protection Agency blocking states' efforts to fight global warming? That makes no sense at all!

In 2004, California created the Clean Cars Program, a set of vehicle emissions standards that's even tougher than federal standards. Since then, eleven more states have decided they want better emissions standards, too.
But the Bush Administration won't let them implement the Clean Cars Program without special permission - a "waiver" under the Clean Air Act.
Even worse, The Bush Administration's EPA has already been sitting on these states' waiver applications for over a year and a half. By dragging its feet, the EPA is preventing states from taking a critical step toward reducing global warming pollution.
